Needwood Forest 2013

packing-s In February 2013 the Scouts visited Needwood Forest near Burton-on-Trent for their annual winter camp. By popular demand we stayed in the very well-equipped May Bullock Centre, which given the snow and ice cold weather proved to be a good choice.

Then event started on Friday night with a wide game in the dark and lots of Ping-Pong and Pool in the centre. On Saturday we made fires and experimented by cooking our lunch of toasted sandwiches and hot-cross buns on the fires. Both were a success even if the buns were a little crispy around the edges. Later that day we made bog-roll catapults and short the rolls across the field.

In the afternoon we split into small groups and set about making short videos in the style of news reports. These were really good and counted for the creative challenge badge as well. In the dark and to cap the day off we ran an impromptu night line through the woods behind the centre, had a great time with that before returning to the catapults to shoot burning bog-rolls through the night!

Sunday came too soon and was spent on more wide games and the customary hut tidy before a closing visit to the shop.
